Math parsing issues

The redcarpet markdown parser doesn't always work with liquid tags for math expressions, e.g. it struggles to parse {% eqinline n^* %}

Using kramdown instead solves that problem, but kramdown doesn't seem to support superscript shortcuts (using n^2 for n^2) in regular text. I think a few tutorials use those. There may also be other things kramdown doesn't parse correctly.
