What feature should be added to Suwayomi?

Preface: Maybe it should be an extension in of itself, I'm not sure if the tachidesk project is the right place for such a feature request, please close the issue if this is irrelevant. My reasoning is that it might not be possible to do as an extension because each extension seems pretty isolated from the others, with tachiyomi/tachidesk acting as an orchestrator.

The feature would be pretty self explanatory : allow users to mark mangas / series as the same series accross several extensions (or even within a same source : bato has some duplicate mangas on various states of completion)

Having this info be crowd sourced means that there would be a need to federate that information between tachidesk instances (maybe there's something that can be done using the ActivityPub protocol). Once enough users mark a manga as "duplicate", they get merged together, into a single source, with all of the metadata, and were to find the best version of the material. This would limit the number of migrations one has to do to keep up to date with less popular mangas.

Why/Project's Benefit/Existing Problem

  • It's cool
  • It would make life super simple for end user, with a limited amount of work (marking the series as "duplicate" of another one, even on a different scanlation website), this would benefit the product as a whole : way less need to migrate from one extension to another, no need to search endlessly for the most advanced version, less duplicates in one's library.

The existing problem is that it's pretty hard to keep up to date on everything. Translation teams come and go, some teams pick up where the other left off, others start from scratch. Unifying under a single book to read would be more convenient.

doing something like this is legally dubious. we would pretty much be acting as an aggregator, facing legal issues much like torrent sites do.
