Response time slows down when a lot of recordings accumulate

When I accumulated about 20 recordings of about 5 minutes each, the app became very slow and I repeatedly got a dialog that informed me that the app was frozen.
This is serious for me because I might fail to record.
Apps like https://gitlab.com/axet/android-audio-recorder do not have this problem.

I have this issue on my Redmi 9 Pro, Android 12. Opening the app and saving recordings can take a minute or two.
