ReactDOM.render warning under React 18

React 18 support was added here, however, when imported as an ES module, the following warning is printed on the console each time a component is mounted.

Warning: ReactDOM.render is no longer supported in React 18. Use createRoot instead. Until you switch to the new API, your app will behave as if it's running React 17. Learn more: https://reactjs.org/link/switch-to-createroot

The use of require here throws a ReferenceError since the require function is only defined globally in commonjs modules.
