[BUG] Hydrogen development server fails when inside an NPM monorepo

When using a Hydrogen application inside of an NPM monorepo with the structure:

├── apps
│   ├── hydrogen

the development server will fail to run and emit the following error:

Command failed with exit code 1: node -p require('./node_modules/@shopify/hydrogen/package.json').version
node:internal/modules/cjs/loader:1042
  throw err;
  ^
Error: Cannot find module './node_modules/@shopify/hydrogen/package.json'
