aruino uno r4 wifi and grove board 12c doesn't work together

when i connect board and lcd rgb to another device they work but when i connect to new arduino r4 wifi it does nothing on the hello world example sketch

i've spent a long time googling. i think the pins might be different or something about pull up resistors (i have no idea how to do that)
12c scanner can see no devices

this board is to make development easier for the new user but doesn't feel like it today
