Hi Ned, Thank you again for this great library for engineers, like me. |

Hello Ned,
first of all i want to say that Calcpad is awesome! I am a civil engineer based in Germany and i like using the software as it makes writing my own calculations / verifications super fast and easy and takes care of all the unit conversion ;).
I wanted to ask how you would suggest bringing data such as the characteristic values for a material or steel-section into the program?
My approach right now is to write a module for example "C24.cpd" or "S235.cpd" and include this to my calculation, from there i can use the char. values like f_y and so on. To change the material/section i change the module name after the #include keyword in to "C30.cpd". Of course i have to stick with a system of naming all variables, but anyways that is more or less given in the EC.
Is there a way to load this kind of data into the software and acces it directly. Maybe with a special command in front of a string (in object notation, example: [Symbol]mat.steel.S235.f_y or section.hea300.h) the parser could read the value from a table or JSON / XML file. Or is it possible to create a material as a class in C# and acces the objects properties at runtime?
I would like to develop worksheets for timber connections as there is rarely any good tool available. As an example the value for k_mod depends on a class of usage and of the assumed duration of the load. To develop a function for that is much easier in C# than as a Calcpad-macro (use of enums and switch...case). I haven't figured out how the parsing is done and what the limitations are, so i hope the question is not to naiv.
As i see in the discussions your focus with Calcpad seems to be more on the mathematical side. Maybe this feature would be to much in the direction of engineering. It's just what i would like as a feature so i wanted to take the advantage to post in this forum. There is a software called vcmaster where you can acces data saved in tables but i find it uncomfortable to use.
Thanks for your or anyones reply in advance!
