Overview

Since upgrading to 7.0.1, the protocols that we wrote for 6.3.1 no longer work properly. The distance that the pipettes go into the labware, which for us is very precisely tuned, is incorrect and unpredictable. After resetting the Opentons, recalibrating everything, and performing a labware position check, the problem became even worse, with the Opentron jamming the pipette tips into the bottom of the labware, to the point of marring the labware and damaging the tips. It also does not appear to be possible to cancel a protocol midrun. If ending a protocol, the instrument must be entirely reset. Finally, one of the purposes of the upgrade was to avoid labware collisions during labware position check, but this remains a problem for labware on the temperature modules.

Steps to reproduce

Run a protocol that previously worked in 6.3.1. Observe changes in pipette movements, especially during aspiration of sample.
Try to cancel the protocol mid run.

Current behavior

Pipette movements do not reflect calibration or labware measurements.
Unable to cancel protocols.
Gantry will collide with labware on temperature modules during labware set up.

Expected behavior

Pipette movements in labware should be the same for 7.0.1 as they are in 6.3.1, allowing use of the same protocols in both versions.
Protocols should be able to be canceled without restarting the robot.
The gantry should be programmed to avoid collisions with labware programmed to be on the deck during labware position check. This is not a new problem--it existed in 6.3.1--but it was supposed to be fixed in 7.0.1.
