Hi there,

I am interested in building an app that shows me when a barrier (Bahnübergang, Schranke) will be open and closed.

My vision is to have an app/watch/carplay that shows:

  • usual driving time to the next barrier
  • the time the barrier will close considering the time it will take you to get there.
  • current status (updated in real-time by processing delays in the transport network)

After a (very) brief look at the available data, I thought I ask for some pointers if and how this could be done.

What (I think) I will need is:

  • the name and location of the barriers.
  • timestamps when they open and close;
    • if this is not available, it might be possible to calculate this by knowing which lines cross the barrier.

I came across this but I'm not an expert of the licensing topics involved:
https://data.sbb.ch/explore/dataset/bahnubergang/information/

I would appreciate any help about where to find this data. And cues whether this is possible with the currently available data at all.

Last November I exchanged with Odi and he had this to say:

Ich glaube nicht, dass es die Daten schon fix-fertig gibt. Via OSM könntest du sicher die Verbindung von Bahnübergang und Bahnlinie hinbekommen (siehe z.B. https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/1cJr). Und den Realtime GTFS (Echtzeitfahrplan) findest du unter https://opentransportdata.swiss/de/dataset/gtfsrt

And there's this:

Level crossings are track crossings at the same level as the track, which are made safe by means of signals, flashing lights/barriers or traffic control installations; or are not secured. The data only reflects the network map of SBB AG.
