The ap-south-1 region is hardcoded in a few places:

Should these not be variables corresponding to the user-specified region instead?

Ideally, yes. The first goal of the open sourced project is to parameterize everything and make this more portable and more of a framework. To that end, I have also made this repo a template repo.
