Is a "Mark" the same as a "Waypoint"?

Are they the same "object". Do they differ in any way?
For simplicity in the manual can we just call them a Waypoint?

Or even a "Mark" but it appears "Waypoint" is used more often.

Yes, "Waypoint" are mostly used I think. But both are there. It's called "Route and mark manager" but once there Waypoint is used everywhere.
Most menus use "mark". Maybe because it's shorter and fits well when space is limited?
I don't think it's a base for confusion to use both. In other navigational tools like plotters both are also used.
In new text I think it's good to use "Waypoint" but since "mark" is used in the program we may mention both words in e.g. some headers.

Logically, a waypoint is a marker that builds a route, i.e. an integral part of the route along which you move from start to finish.
A marker on the map marks a place of interest.
Therefore, a marker that is not part of the route is not a waypoint.

How is this?
Marks and Waypoints are identical programmatically and are interchangeable, however, logically, a Waypoint is a marker that is used as a navigation point or part of a Route, whereas a Mark on a chart normally marks a place of interest.
