There is an old addon ankiTab that works with Anki through AnkiConnect. Would you like to consider it?

Anki integration is definitely interesting one, but I struggle to undestand how exactly it should look. Do you have any specific ideas?

I can imagine showing stats (like day streak or decks which have reviews due)

I think the widget can show the front side on the grid and after being clicked on, shows the entire card in the expanded prompt.
