The loss (6) indicates that the label of xj_i is the same with xi, but in first row of Figure 2(a), these two pictures are both for the man, but the loss(6) indicates the id of man in red clothes is the same with the girl.

Yes. The loss(6) indicates the id of man in red clothes is the same with the girl.
In this way, we force the generator to change the appearance according to the appearance code.
