Accessibility issues

on this demo page, https://codepen.io/Mobius1/pen/QgdpLN the accessibility only works when there is a text field in the dropdown but when you remove the text field, then you won't be able to select the dropdown from the keyboard.

this is the working example where I have removed the text field but won't be able to navigate or select from the keyboard.

I did a bit of keyboard only testing with Brave. Don't understand why there are 2 X's here:

Keyboard focus only follow the one. Also, putting link to #57
