Unable to Add New Root Directories MacOS Sonoma

• I have read and acknowledged this HOWTO article:
  Submitting a MiKTeX problem report

On MacOS Sonoma only (I have tested this on prior versions of MacOS and do not observe the same issue), it is not possible to add a new TEXMF root directory. When you try, the spinning Mac colour wheel appears for about a minute and then it returns back to the original window with no dialogue window produced to add the new TEXMF root directory.
