Zooming Performance is Really Poor

I have a comic book about 80 MB in size, scanned. The comic opens fine, but zooming in and out on it is extremely laggy. I have repeated experienced this issue with comics with large file sizes.

80MB itself should be be no problem, I've certainly looked at larger. However, using SimpleComic 1.9.1 on my M1 MacBook I do notice that scaling performance gets worse after the first few zoom bumps and progressively slower each zoom level after that.

Beyond my expertise to evaluate but perhaps @MaddTheSane or some of our other volunteers will be able ran a debugger or profiler and find some areas for performance improvements.
