The people behind Novaxis scsi had the idea back in the day to make a sector read function which reads directly to an output port (and a read from an input port). When have such a function you could read data very fast into, for example, the memory of the V9990, perhaps even faster than too memory since many chips do auto address increment after a written or red byte. Also you would not need memory buffers to store your data first before transferring to a another non z80 controlled memory. I'm not very familiar with the internals of dos2 if this is at all possible. The disk rom always reads 512 bytes at once iirc. so it might be not possible to implement totally without buffering in ram.
