Commit selector is broken on JupyterLab #36

Steps to reproduce:

Open a notebook on the JupyterHub deployment (make sure the JupyterLab interface is displayed instead of Classis)
Execute the commit selector block

Expected output: the commit selector widget appears

Actual output:

thSoft added the bug label

Workaround: select Help > Launch Classic Notebook.
