Problem Description

the new CALF cameras produce export ready 3d videos with proper 3d metadata in a side-by-side format. They work natively in meta quest headsets, and 3d experience in youtube. Even VLC has a 3d-mode which is properly invoked using the metadata on the video file. However, even when clicking "passthru common metadata" the 3d video options in handbrake ensure that the 3d video metadata is missing after compression using handbrake.

There has been lots of talk about handbrake not supporting the addition of 3d video metadata.. but the cameras are finally starting to get this right out-of-box. Is there anyway that the handbrake "passthru common metadata" can be modified to support 3d video metadata too?

I guess this falls in the "patches are welcomed" camp. If it's side-by-side with metadata in the container it should be easily doable, do you have a sample mp4 file?
