National characters in room names

Is it normal that national characters are removed from room names/ids as shown in the attached screenshot? Can this application behavior be changed?

Hello,

up to now we are removing "suspicouis" characters from the string.
We had a lot of trouble with special characters so we decided to remove these special characters.
For example whitespaces leads to an error and äöü. We tried to replace the unknown characters. But were not able to catch all special charcters, so we decided to remove all unknow.
