Hey @NAMRATA-WOKE wanted to make you aware of this IF initiative - Plugin Registry which we're currently working on in the IF team and hoping to launch an MVP towards the end of May (specific date still to be confirmed). All relevant details that we know of are in the parent issue, let me know if you have any questions or you'd like to get on a call to discuss?

@zanete thanks. @jawache I have some questions for you/IF team:

How are we going to 'celebrate' and/or profile organizations that have significantly contributed to expanding the plugin ecosystem? Will that information be easily extractable?

  • Has the IF team set targets we are working towards (i.e, # of plugins introduced by member volunteers)?
  • Do we have an incentive scheme set up to mobilize members to push contributors to build plugins for IF?

Is there a sub-group set up within the IF team to test plugins and determine credibility/share uses?

Will this be linked in any way to GSF Champions?

Are we open to creating a 'meetup-in-a-box' tied to developing plugins for IF that we can share with Meetup organizers?

Has the team ideated top 5/10 most useful plugins for IF and impact measurement?

Can we indicate/tease the 'commercial interest' angle for some companies (e.g., professional services companies) in contributing to the success of this registry?

@NAMRATA-WOKE great questions, and I'm sure that most haven't been really considered (there will be a process for evaluating the plugin to see if it meets acceptance criteria, that's currently being worked on in #617), how about we get on a call and discuss all this as async might be difficult given the volume and depth of conversation needed, especially as Asim is away from today. I'll put something in for when he's back

EDIT: I've just chatted to Asim and, since you've got a lot of things on atm, he suggested parking this for after we've launched when a lot more things will be clearer

@zanete okay! I'd really appreciate a month to plan/develop marketing and comms for any sort of campaigning or push we'd like to do, especially on the member front.

Don't know yet - right now the plan is just to launch an mvp of the site that allows users to search or browse for plugins that appear as cards in the UI and link to github repositories or npm packages. My sense is that there is already a degree of pent up demand for this because people want to see their plugins in some central place they can point to other than their own github accounts, and also to find other people's plugins.

Has the IF team set targets we are working towards (i.e, # of plugins introduced by member volunteers)?

We have OKRs related to this - we were aiming for 50 plugins on the registry and 20 individual contributors to IF by the end of the year. We don't have an explicit incentive scheme.

Will this be linked in any way to GSF Champions?

I don't know about this.

Are we open to creating a 'meetup-in-a-box' tied to developing plugins for IF that we can share with Meetup organizers?

Also no idea about this.

Has the team ideated top 5/10 most useful plugins for IF and impact measurement?

No - the closest we have gotten to this is judging the hackathon entries. We don't want to have too much say in what the "best" plugins are as long as they meet some basic requirements - our job is just to make them discoverable and the utility emerges naturally from what people choose to use. We can have "featured" plugins and we have discussed the idea of using digital badges for plugins that meet certain QA requirements.

Can we indicate/tease the 'commercial interest' angle for some companies (e.g., professional services companies) in contributing to the success of this registry?

Also not sure about this. What is the commercial interest angle?

Thanks @zanete and @NAMRATA-WOKE

As @jmcook1186 said this is just an MVP to give the hackathon participants somewhere to list their plugins. Letting the world know it exists is enough for now, we are not ready and don't have capacity for anything else at the moment. Just a soft launch, social post is fine.

This especially isn't a moment to drive for the creation of another avalanche of plugins, we've not had the chance to review and learn from what was published in the hackathon.

Thanks @jawache , should we pencil in some time to do this later in the year as we'll probably would need a push to hit the OKRs, do you see this before / around the sci-fi day or even later?

@zanete I imagine the only time we'll do a marketing push here is when we've completed the V2 of the registry and we have no idea when that will happen right now. I'd imagine it would coincide with the 1.0 launch and also perhaps IF reaching graduation, so a long while away but also an obvious point where we'll be having conversations about marketing so no need to pencil in a date.

So far we've got what we wanted which is a set of active public contributors, goal now is just to work with them to refine IF to a 1.0.
