variable data is "hidden" in some views, but shown in others #903

This ticket was originally more than a little vague (only info is in title) but I know of two instances where was happening:

In the preview. There was a bug in the preview and Beverly already has a PR addressing it somewhere.
After the message is sent when we want to display the sent message. This is due to a bug in jobs/rest.py on the back end, which is addressed here.
