Hello!

This is a bit of a longshot, but is there any possibility this tool might be able to support installing PlayOnline viewer and Tetra Master onto an HDD like it does HDD-OSD? It seems like bypassing the DNAS checks on the installer allows one to proceed, but you can't load the ISO from OPL and get it to continue through setup. I figure maybe an external tool like this would be the correct solution.

If that disc writes data to the HDD then it's more than obvious that it won't work from OPL...

EE_core HDD modules will interfere with the disc program.

Maybe loading it from USB...

I was referring to loading it from USB, although someone in the OPL GitHub mentioned I may need to do a patch to get it to recognise a third party hard drive

Ah, yes.

After some research it seems that it is impossible to install the PlayOnline properly like the HDD-OSD. But there is a technique which consists in writing an image.IMG on the HDD but it is bad for the geometry.

In addition, the servers have been closed since 2016 and it is no longer possible to use it for Final Fantasy or others. Unless you have other information about it that I don't know.

Hmm, what does it mean to be bad for the geometry? Do you know if there's an image with FFXI/POL/Tetra Master available for someone to use? That is correct, currently the servers are closed but PlayOnline functions (chat, email, profiles, etc) still work as far as I know. I'd be curious to run them on a PS2. It may also open up the gateway for someone to get a build of Darkstar working with FFXI on the PS2.

When an HDD image is created, the image retains all the characteristics of the hard disk, so if you install this .IMG on another HDD, it will copy the information from the other hard disk and therefore break the geometry. The hard disk will work but if you add more files over time, the hard disk may have I/O errors. (Data corruption)

You can only install an .IMG on the same hard disk which contains the same characteristics so as not to have any problem. any video on youtube that shows how to hack PS2 by installing an .IMG of FreeHDBoot is very bad.

But if you want to temporarily install Playonline out of curiosity, I think you can find dumps of Playonline.IMGs on archive.org

I actually have an update on this one- it looks like there's a form of cryptography that DNAS uses when installing POL that basically binds the POL install to the hard drive/console. It's installed to the _web partition of the drive. As of right now the cryptography hasn't been reverse engineered, meaning even if I took a dump of a playonline image it wouldn't launch due to that issue. Figured I'd put this here so it's documented and hopefully someone is able to reverse engineer it!

Nice unfortunately I think it will be recreated (or not) because with the support of exFAT internal hard drives which can have more than 10TB the old APA format will be abandoned
so I don't know if playonline will ever be usable again
