<p>Welcome! These are some bonus puzzles to accompany the Girl Develop It <a href="http://www.meetup.com/Girl-Develop-It-RDU/events/161864322/">JavaScript for Beginners</a> class. Please take a look at the puzzles, and work on one that looks challenging but not completely overwhelming. You can always reference <a href="http://www.platypoda.com/js-intro/">the slides</a> if you get stuck. Commit to spend at least 20 minutes trying to figure out a problem before you look at the answers. It helps you learn!</p>
<h2 id="class1">Class 1</h2>
<h3>The Fortune Teller</h3>
<p><em>Why pay a fortune teller when you can just program your fortune yourself?</em></p>
<ul>
<li>Store the following into variables: number of children, partner's name, geographic location, job title.</li>
<li>Output your fortune to the screen like so: "You will be a X in Y, and married to Z with N kids."</li>

<h3>The Calculator</h3>
<ul>
<li>Write a function called <code>squareNumber</code> that will take one argument (a number), square that number, and return the result. It should also log a string like "The result of squaring the number 3 is 9." </li>
<li>Write a function called <code>halfNumber</code> that will take one argument (a number), divide it by 2, and return the result. It should also log a string like "Half of 5 is 2.5.".</li>
<li>Write a function called <code>percentOf</code> that will take two numbers, figure out what percent the first number represents of the second number, and return the result. It should also log a string like "2 is 50% of 4."</li>
<li>Write a function called <code>areaOfCircle</code> that will take one argument (the radius), calculate the area based on that, and return the result. It should also log a string like "The area for a circle with radius 2 is 12.566370614359172."

<li>Write a function that will take one argument (a number) and perform the following operations, using the functions
you wrote earlier:

<h3>Challenge Questions: String Manipulation</h3>
<p>If you feel comfortable with the other exercises, it's time to expand your knowledge! These puzzles involve manipulating strings; to try them out, you'll need to use some of the <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/jsref_obj_string.asp">built-in JavaScript methods for strings</a>. Methods are pre-written functions that are built into the language.</p>
<p>These questions are not as straightforward as the others. They challenge you to really think like a programmer. Really try to solve them before you peek at the answer.</p>
<h4>MixUp</h4>
<p>Create a function called <code>mixUp</code>. It should take in two strings, and return the concatenation of the two strings (separated by a space) slicing out and swapping the first 2 characters of each. You can assume that the strings are at least 2 characters long. For example:</p>

<p>Create a function called <code>fixStart</code>. It should take a single argument, a string, and return a version where all occurrences of its first character have been replaced with '*', except for the first character itself. You can assume that the string is at least one character long. For example:</p>

<h3>Pluralize</h3>

<p>Keep track of which books you read and which books you want to read!</p>

<li>Create an array of objects, where each object describes a book and has properties for the title (a string), author (a string), and alreadyRead (a boolean indicating if you read it yet).</li>
<li>Iterate through the array of books. For each book, log the book title and book author like so: "The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien".</li>
<li>Now use an if/else statement to change the output depending on whether you read it yet or not. If you read it, log a string like 'You already read "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien', and if not, log a string like 'You still need to read "The Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien.'</li>

<li><strong>Bonus</strong>: Use a <code>ul</code> and <code>li</code> to display the books.</li>
