I was going to install this from fdroid, but malwarebytes stopped me saying it was ransomware.

This is likely because someone distributed a modified version of this app, including malware. This app is not ransomeware because it doesn't even have access to your files.

Could you further describe what malwarebytes told you, please?

I couldn't get any more information.

I don't think I can do something about this. It also says it's "potential ransomware" so I guess it's some permission which triggers this.

Maybe I can help...

Is the F-Droid version the same as the GitHub one?

OK,... Short Info: Have some knowledge in this field... E.g. I help at the moment BleachBit to be no more detected as virus, too...

So steps to go are IMHO:

  • Create a free Account at VirusTotal.com if possible.

  • Upload file.

  • Check if file was already uploaded and scanned.

  • If file was already uploaded, restart scan, else will get shown the old, saved result, but we want a new, to know what's really goes at the moment.

So... I did it, and... was a surprise for me to:
Everything OK!

Here a screenshot:

Here the link with the result:

I used the APK from GitHub... Guess the APK on F-Droid is the same... (?)

And about the Account on VT:
If you have an Acc, you can vote, that the file is OK.

OK, just try a install, again... 😁

The GitHub release is the same version as on F-Droid and the Play Store.
