Non of the r/educationalgifs for instance are displayed in this app. the loading animation circles around for a while just to drop a "try again" messsage until you finally surrender and let it go.

On app version 5.0.4-FDroid, for me, they do load; it just takes longer due to the sizes of the gifs. Maybe it can be made to load as MP4, which is what the website does.
