How can I pull the profile picture out from ldap.

This echo $user->ldap->getFirstAttribute('thumbnailPhoto'); spits out a bunch of binary data so the data is there.
I'd like to try to use this https://ldaprecord.com/docs/core/v3/model-mutators#accessors--mutators.
but not sure what I should put in as the argument?
