I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice.

Here is a colloquial explanation of what I understand to be the legal situation surrounding OpenSim Creator:

  • It is, and has always been, entirely free for all use-cases
  • It's Apache licensed, which is a permissive license that enables you to take the source code of OpenSim Creator and do anything you want with it. This includes commercializing the code, building a modified version with proprietary features, etc.
  • The only thing you can't do is brand your modified product "OpenSim Creator" - the name specifically refers to this project
  • All existing releases of OpenSim Creator, and its source code repository, will remain free because they are publ…
