Further to #4369, we have made the decision to pull data for recoveries beginning August 4. After this date, the recovery data in the time series and recovery and active case data in the daily reports will be nullified.

Maybe the total number of recovered ones is not reliable, but then at least daily changes are needed, since this affects the number of active patients.

Hi, just out of interest, is the discontinuation of recovered data because of scientific reasons or simply a decision not to track it?

This decision puts the entire dataset provided by JHU in question.

If data "accuracy" is the key reason for this decision, then you would stop reporting total cases. Scientifically, it is a fact that most asymptomatic cases go unreported, so the total case count would be unreliable as well. That data is still reported, however. The same holds true for deaths, since COVID was listed as the primary reason for people who died of other reasons, but tested positive for the virus.

The simple (scientific) breakdown is this. Cumulative cases and deaths always rise. Cumulative/Death=Scary. Current cases and recoveries allow people to calculate the actual (relatively low) death rates. Current/Recovered=Context.

Scary=Reported
Context=Unreliable/Hidden

I'm done with JHU's data website and every product that sources its data.

in case you create charts based on this data, they now look like this:

Especially with the 4th delta wave hitting many countries now, keeping track of the active cases is the most helpful indicator.

Why recovered cases data is discontinued?

Why recovered cases data is discontinued?

My guess is because all covid decisions are political now. Recovery data doesn’t show that we’re all going to die. LOL
