The large motors in heat pumps dislike being run briefly, particularly if coupled with frequent starts, because there is inadequate flow to dissipate heat. I think soft start controllers will help, but can't eliminate the problem & std induction motors are vulnerable.
The basis process is the heat pump starts up when the return temp drops to 39° & stops when it reaches 45°. in cold weather that gives 3-5 starts/hr which is fine, & fewer when its a bit warmer.
if the pump starts just before the next 30 min slot and when the transition for the sensor is on to off, it will have a very short run, which is not desirable.
Is is possible to have a sensor that flags when the next slot transition is going to be on to off, that could then be used to prevent the heat pump starting up within 10 minutes of the transition. I envisage using the octopus mini or a current clamp, for real time consumption to show the status of the heat pump?
ie something like
IF (heat pump running="no" AND next agile transition ="on" to "off" ) THEN set heat pump off.
Or can the agile state transition be extracted from the existing entities?
Thanks for considering this.
