This was first reported in the Archlinux Bugtracker, also with some more context to it: https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/rawtherapee/-/issues/2

There have been reports of the splash dialog opening up behind the main application window. Input in the main window is disabled while the dialog is open. Check if this is the case for you. I am also running RawTherapee on Arch (but with KDE). For me, the dialog is always on top no matter how hard I try to bring the main window to the front.

Also note:

  • The splash dialog only opens on the first run after installation (or clearing the configuration).
  • RawTherapee does not have a --verbose flag. To enable verbose output, set Verbose=true in the options file.
  • The dialog opening in the background is likely a bug in the window manager. There is a smaller possibility that it is a GTK bug.

  • possibility that it is a GTK bug

That could well be, yes - I also have a similar (but kind of reversed) problem with GSConnect (KDEConne4ct for Gnome). Since Gnome v46 the battery status - when highlighted with mouse-over - is shown normally at the first time, but behind the pulldown window on each consecutive try...

Now how to report that up-upstream to the Gnome devs? Hmmm...

Anyway, thanks for your help!

This is reproducible on Manjaro with Plasma on Wayland. Indeed the dialog was behind the main window and clicking the RawTherapee icon on the Task Manager brought it to the top and everything was ok after that.
