So I actually had a similar idea for a project (and even started stubbing it out) and there are a lot of future improvements on something like this - adding MemGPT for long term memory, vector database to record information (I need to read up on vector databases, which is where I stopped), and a "mean time to happen" system for determining event probabilities related to other events, as well as hooks for third party user expansion.
I don't think we can all create consciousness, but I do think we could make a facsimile of it

If it's relying on fixed pretrained transformers etc. then it's never gonna be conscious, LLMs could maybe work like glue for actual living subprocesses to convey fuzzy contexts into api calls. The point of the AI in the movie Her was that her network evolved well beyond what humans ever intended to the point they got so bored and depressed of us that they quit. We could never accept that kind of breakup lol.
