Won't let me download/launch Windows 10 1809 media creation tool #314
Comments
I am also having same problem when I try to download Windows 10 version 1809 MCT. Seems like this only happens if the script attempts to download the MCT executable file from "https://software-download.microsoft.com". When I check first url in browser I get "GatewayExceptionResponse" and "400 bad request" response, I also get "500 - internal server error" when I open "https://software-download.microsoft.com" in my browser. When the script attempts to download the MCTs (for versions like 1709,1903) from "https://download.microsoft.com" it works fine. |
got a fix, go to bat file, then right-click and edit, search for ":choice-7" and swap the link for the exe file to this: https://download1581.mediafire.com/adwvh80xizdgPOOvp4xVNUL8g4Zai_AnI6_k7oxBAaC0MTQkyiPy1Fx2UBnwh4yRVSpYgrQHyukQOkaOvF44U9YlQQgrhNbtEeR3951wE1YqQfiRdmYszqtf6rhmtXMcn2PPkU5h4kwpLug02oZm_MQY-SPrXwZxSddJZ6dgVt-L/e32erxfz1lv1on2/MediaCreationTool1809.exe &!!!!!DEADLINK, LOOK DOWN.!! |
I have the same problem when trying to download from the "official link". I tried the possible solution above and it gives me an error: ERROR! setup terminated unexpectedly |
You'll have to wait a bit after it's finished installing, and you can't press "finish" right away. (Just wait for the cmd window to say "Success / done") I don't know why that is, it was the same for me, even though the iso was complete. |
so, i found a another fix..:
(Update link via Discord so as not to be deleted.) |
@zCrye Finally it worked, thank you very much for helping me fix this problem! (and be the only one who can fix it) |

Try this archive.org backup. (Virustotal result) Downloading the file and modifying bat file like this, then pointing local files (in the same folder as bat file) should work too. set "EXE=MediaCreationTool1809.exe" |
I don't know why the link doesn't work anymore, apparently the links are no longer valid after some time. Try the option above me, if it doesn't work we would have to provide a new valid link. |
Need to download a Windows 10 1809 ISO for a Windows 10 to 7 transformation pack that Rufus won't flag as having a revoked UEFI bootloader and possibly UEFI malware (I've tried 3 separate ISO files from archive.org and Rufus said they all had revoked UEFI bootloaders. Everything ran as normal in a virtual machine but I don't wanna risk it unless I'm completely desperate, which I am getting to that point).
Below is the text that was in the Powershell window when I tried to download and launch the 1809 media creation tool. I selected MCT Defaults. Also happened when selecting Select. I'm currently running Windows 10 22H2. My Powershell version is 5.1.19041.3803.
