What

When on Dotcom, I think it might be worth adding a task to the setup list to launch the site. Note how the list is completed (and switches over to a Congrats message in a second), while the site is still in Coming Soon mode.

Requirements are here.

Why

This solve the problem of the lack of knowledge for a new user.

Requirements

  • Add a Launch your site to the world task to the end of the checklist on Sensei Home. Clicking this should perform the same function as when clicking it from the Site setup checklist on My Home (i.e. makes the site public).
  • This task should only be visible / executed on Atomic sites.
  • Only once all tasks in the checklist are completed (including this new one) should the "Your new course is ready..." message be displayed.
  • A sensei_home_task_complete event should be logged with the appropriate type property when the site is successfully launched.

I suspect that the email verification step needs to be completed before the site can be launched. We should confirm that that's true.

I'm facing some issues with authenticating the request when trying to launch the site using the WPCOM REST API. I'm out of ideas so I've asked the Jetpack devs - p1706719756405159-slack-CDLH4C1UZ.

Some progress here. We can use the JETPACK__SANDBOX_DOMAIN constant to point the public-api.wordpress.com requests to a sandbox where the authentication issue can be debugged.

@m1r0 Given your last comment is this still Blocked? If so, would you mind listing the specifics of the blockage?

Given your last comment is this still Blocked?

Oh, I've forgot to update the status. The debugging can continue, so It's not blocked anymore.

@donnapep, should I prioritize working on this?

should I prioritize working on this?

Perhaps we could pick this back up after the course onboarding tour, but before the quiz onboarding tour. It's going to be a blocker for bypassing Calypso and going straight to WP admin, but I think we should first look at the work that is being done to untangle Calypso and WP admin in pfsHM7-J-p2 and reassess whether it still makes sense to pursue this. Maybe the default experience will be much improved.
