Describe the bug
On my Intel 1240p laptop, I have 4 desktops (panes) opened for regular work. I have 2 documents opened in 2 different tabs of the same Notepads instance. After my machine wakes up from sleep then notepads app start misbehaving. Each time, I switch to different desktop (pane) with mouse clicking on desktop pinned icon in the task bar, a new notepads instance opens up automatically. Sometime the new unintended notepads instance displays the already opened files in tabs or sometimes it open with blank (NO document) pane. When notepads app spawns 20-30 unintended instances then the windows OS starts lagging and I have to restart the whole machine to avoid system crash.

To Reproduce
Let your laptop go to sleep with notepads instance open. After you get your machine to wake up and you switch between different desktops, you'll observe notepads app spawning new instances.

Expected behavior
Notepads app should never spawn new instances without explicitly opening a document associated with Notepads or clicking the Notepads app icon.

Screenshots
If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Windows 11 23H2 (22631.3007)
  • Version: v1.5.4.0

Additional context
I installed notepads-np package using scoop windows package manager.
