Installation of copilot for vim on cygwin appears to have documentation. I am thinking that this may be supported but, I have not found specifics on installation. I have recompiled vim (9.0.x). I downloaded binaries for Node.js for linux. (I read notes about needing to have native version of linux, so I am doubting that cygwin is supported). Running configure Node.js on cygwin and have had no success. I am not sure how nodesj is treated. My guess is I have the wrong configs. Can someone please point me in the right direction as far as which version nodejs and npm go on cygwin?

To install GitHub Copilot for Vim on Cygwin, you need to have Vim (9.0.0185 or newer) and Node.js installed. Here are the steps:

1. Install Vim on Cygwin: You can install Vim on Cygwin by running Cygwin's setup.exe again and selecting the Vim package.

2. Install Node.js on Cygwin: Node.js installation on Cygwin can be a bit tricky as Cygwin support was dropped a long time ago. However, you can try installing Node.js on Cygwin by downloading the latest Node.js build from the official website and installing it to the default location. After installation, you can verify the installation by typing node -v in the Cygwin terminal.

3. Install GitHub Copilot: Once you have Vim and Node.js installed, you can install GitHub Copilot. GitHub Copilot is a Vim/Neovim plugin. You can install it using vim-plug, packer.nvim, or any other plugin manager. Or to install manually, run one of the following commands:

For Vim on Linux/macOS:

git clone https://github.com/github/copilot.vim.git \\
~/.vim/pack/github/start/copilot.vim

For Neovim on Linux/macOS:

git clone https://github.com/github/copilot.vim.git \\
~/.config/nvim/pack/github/start/copilot.vim

For Vim on Windows (PowerShell command):

git clone https://github.com/github/copilot.vim.git `
$HOME/vimfiles/pack/github/start/copilot.vim

For Neovim on Windows (PowerShell command):

git clone https://github.com/github/copilot.vim.git `
$HOME/AppData/Local/nvim/pack/github/start/copilot.vim

After cloning the repository, start Neovim and invoke `:Copilot setup`. Suggestions are displayed inline and can be accepted by pressing the tab key.

I have tried the default method of installing nodejs from the suggested links. I can get node.exe to give me a version back after installation. I have had no success with the npm part of the installation. I have searched and spent several hours trying to figure out why. There may be a good place to look for informaiton. I have not found it yet. I used the following to try and get npm going.

Is there a better reference out there for installing nodejs / npm on windows + Cygiwn?

This seem weird to me. This is not a cygwin installation of nodejs+npm. It is a windows installation with hooks into cygwin to try and get everything to work.

I need a good reference so that nodejs + npm will work with cygwin installed. (node.exe is running under windows, and then there are hooks from cygwin back to windows).

I wish this worked for me. It does not.

1. I have vim installed via Cygwin's setup.exe. It comes up reporting VIM version 9.0.2155. which vim gives me /usr/bin/vim
2. I have node installed. Running node -v returns v18.11.0. which node gives me /cygdrive/c/Program Files/nodejs/node
3. I've installed via cd $HOME; git clone https://github.com/github/copilot.vim.git .vim/pack/github/start/copilot.vim. (Since my git is from Windows, it doesn't understand the Cygwin paths ~ or $HOME. I need to cd there first so I can give git a relative pathname to clone into.) I can confirm that my ~/.vim/pack/ has the appropriate stuff in it.

When I launch vim and run :Copilot setup, I get the error Copilot: Something unexpected went wrong spawning the agent
