A friend of mine had the same issue with a flagged account and GitHub insisted that he is using multiple Accounts even if he only has a roomate which is using an additional GitHub account via the same DSL landline. The support insistet that the account content is kept hidden/flagged so he decided to "rage quit" and delete his account (which is understandable if GitHub is breaking accounts at will / out of the blue without some one can do something about it :-(). I created a ticket on his behalf (because he didn't have an account anymore) and received the following after around (1-2 months!!!):
He is now trying to get this solved via tickets since around 4 months and created multiple tickets (as the previous haven't been answered / he can't check the ticket status without an account) without any luck. It seems that there is just no interest by GitHub to restore the existing data to not break content on their platform :-( The "for a limited time" time frame is probably now gone already (remember, for my initial Ticket GitHub took around 1-2 months to respond!!!). Consequences are now that there are so many contributions from him to projects which have completely vanished due to GitHubs bad behavior like e.g.:

A month after the account was blocked, I decided to upgrade it to Pro and after that I wrote to the support service again and within a week I received a response and my account was unblocked, it turns out that the owners of Pro accounts are a priority for the support service. |

Our account was suspended on 01-Feb-24 without any warning. We created a support ticket and got it unblocked. However, now it shows as flagged. As a result, we can not invite new users to the repositories nor deploy anything through Github actions. We have been following up with Github Support team from last 4 days but there is no response. It is utmost irresponsible step from Github. |

The official statistics shows that in 2023 less than 3% of hidden accounts were unhidden (683 unhide cases): I suppose that these remaining 97% are deliberate or unamendable TOS violations and/or throwaway accounts. It's not clear what is taken for 100% (28632 cases): is it the overall hidden account case count or just these cases where reinstatement request was initiated. If 28k+ is the reinstatement request count then we get 80 requests per day and then it is no wonder that they are processed in such a questionable way (a dedicated reinstatement team of 10 to 20 might be needed just to process this volume). If 28632 is the total count of cases, and if we assume that only 6% of hidden accounts are requested to be reinstated (with 3% of positive decisions) then it's only around 5 requests per day. Looks like it's not too much, and I wonder what's the problem is with the support response time then. |
