SSH cloning with WSL2 not working

I'm having problem authenticating ssh to github through WSL2 with Ubuntu 24.04
The basic steps were: I set up WSL2, downloaded Ubuntu, updated Ubuntu, configured git and ran
ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C "your_email@example.com"
Pressed enter all the way, copied the public key to my github account and ran
git clone "repo"
and got

As far as I understand, this should have worked. But other than that I searched the web a lot and tried a few other solutions, none of them worked.
Any ideas?

The way I go about this when I use WSL is I just ctrl+shift+P in VS Code and search for the "Git: Clone" option and I choose the repo I'd like to clone and it works.

This is an issue other people seem to be having with WSL2, but it might be better to try to use GitHub CLI.
