It would be nice to store a preference for having the dashboard settings open or closed.

Issues to keep in mind:

GDPR consideration
Local storage vs Session storage vs Cookie
Directly saving prefs in the server-based .json

Please comment your thoughts, and lets' find a way to possibly get these UX niceties implemented in another issue/pr.
