I think this is just the expected behaviour of Stockfish. Not a bug, and unrelated to lichess per se. "Fixing" this is not trivial, and unlikely to be validated by maintainers, as they optimise for elo, and code simplicity / maintainability.
But I hear you. From a human chess playing pov, this is disappointing. No impact against other engines that SF competes against (who play this TB-perfect). But for a human it's instructive to play on, against a resisting opponent, to understand the pitfalls of KRKN endgame. There are endless ways to blunder into a losing KRKN position...
