This is a discussion ticket about how tags could be multilingual.
Fact is tags unfortunately are the only text part of Zenphoto that is not multilingual yet.
Think of a multilingual site with two languages, lets say English and German and you use tags on your photos extensively and you want them to be used by visitors. Now you have to have each for every language you use. Now those language tags intermixed on the photos which makes it inconvenient for the visitor to sort out himself which he actually understands. Especially think of a tag cloud on an archive page with dozens or more tags for example.
So from the usability point of view it would be better to show the visitor only the tags of the language the visitor has selected.
The "problem"
Tags are a bit different to other "items" on Zenphoto as there is no title / name pair so there is no title that can be translated. A tag is always a unique tag on Zenphoto's search engine.
Possible solution: Tag language sets
Since it has been ruled out to align tags to other items that have this title/name pair a way would be to use tag language sets.
So you would be able to assign a tag to one or more languages (some technically terms would be the same in English and German for example) to achieve this.
Of course this would require a rework of the tags interface both on the main tags tab and the selectors on each item.
Also it would require a new db table similar to the news2cat or admin_to_object ones to create these tag language sets.
