There's no reason we can't draw the gutter correctly immediately; this is probably similar to #257.

Can't see any flashes. Has this been fixed?

@jansol I'm still seeing it if I repeatedly press ⌘T. It might be more noticeable with a theme like Solarized light where the gutter is a different color from the background.

Ah, indeed. It's just not visible in new windows because of the opening animation.
