If I set baseurl as blank in _config.yml then avatar image doesn't load.

prefixed site.url to load the image when baseurl is blank.
Although is working fine but an extra forward slash exists in the image path.

Please can you shed more light on how I would go about rectifying this?
I am having the same issue. My avatar images are not loading.

in your _config.yml update avatar line to this

avatar: assets/images/avatar1.jpg
