(SOLVED) Is there a way to disable some of the symbols in section z?

I love the looks of airline, but I'd like to have just a percentage, a line number and a column number in my Z section. like:
14% 50:10
just that. personally I think the symbols can be a bit confusing at times, I'd like to keep it simple.

how could I change the behavior of the Z section to make it look like that? would I have to go tweak some function in the code?

EDIT: found an answer to my question on StackExchange.
I added the following lines to my .vimrc file...

if !exists('g:airline_symbols')
  let g:airline_symbols = {}
endif

let g:airline_symbols.linenr = ''
let g:airline_symbols.colnr = ':'

au User AirlineAfterInit  :let g:airline_section_z = airline#section#create(['%3p%%  ','linenr','colnr'])

... and the result was this:

which is exactly what I was going for.
