Our Chapter

We are a club that seeks to facilitate an increased knowledge of various aspects of computer science by encouraging the exploration of the field. Furthermore, we provide a means of communication, both technical and non-technical, between people interested in computer science. We host weekly tech talks, given by students for students. We are open to all members of the U of A community interested in computer science, not just CS majors. See our past talks for an idea of what ACM is all about.

In addition to our weekly tech talks, we host evens such as the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest, and the annual ACM hackathon.

History

We are one of two student chapters in Arizona. Our charter is home to students from not just The University of Arizona, but surrounding colleges as well. ACM was chartered by Justin Van Horne in 2010 and is currently sponsored by Dr. Patick Homer. Club presidents include Justin Van Horne, Chas Leichner, Shane Gianelli, Matt Gautreau, and Chris Chapline.

What is ACM?

ACM is an educational and scientific society uniting the world's computing educators, researchers and professionals to inspire dialogue, share resources and address the field's challenges. ACM strengthens the profession's collective voice through strong leadership, promotion of the highest standards, and recognition of technical excellence. ACM supports the professional growth of its members by providing opportunities for life-long learning, career development, and professional networking.

ACM is widely recognized as the premier membership organization for computing professionals, delivering resources that advance computing as a science and a profession; enable professional development; and promote policies and research that benefit society.

ACM hosts the computing industry's leading Digital Library, and serves its global members and the computing profession with journals and magazines, conferences, workshops, electronic forums, and Learning Center.

By-Laws

The ACM official by-laws can be found here.
