HELP!!! list item forecast list view IS NOT displaying

Mine first says I have 3 errors....then i ran it again and it listed alot more errors. I have no idea what to do. I really wanna complete this course. I followed along and created the fragment and everything. all my code was followed correctly as I can see. But in my main activity I can see red text for "R.menu.main, menu" in the onCreateOptions method(), and also in onOptionsItemSelected() the if statement argument if (id == R.id.action_settings). The bold stuff is red for the IDE saying cannot resolve symbol for each bold word here. I corrected all my package names and checked my main activity against the branch for this lesson. and copied the main activity into my main and it still did the same thing.
