stern with container and minikube

Following the readme, I execute:

docker run --rm -v "$HOME/.minikube:$HOME/.minikube" -v "$HOME/.kube:/$HOME/.kube" -e KUBECONFIG="$HOME/.kube/config" ghcr.io/stern/stern .

This "succeeds" in so far as that it:

• doesn't print any errors
• seems to be waiting / tailing

However, it doesn't show any log output.

If I download the latest binary (stern_1.20.1_linux_amd64.tar.gz at the time of writing) and execute ./stern ., I do get lots of output!

What can I do to get stern running from a container?

This is probably due to the fact that you are using docker driver. Using host network as follows will work.

$ docker run --rm -v "$HOME/.minikube:$HOME/.minikube" -v "$HOME/.kube:/$HOME/.kube" -e KUBECONFIG="$HOME/.kube/config" --network=host ghcr.io/stern/stern . --tail=5
