The plugins seem hardcoded to an en_US keyboard. It ignores the keyboard Layout of the system (Kubuntu 20.10 here).

...or should this be an issue in the vstgui repository since it is in that submodule?

It isn't only affecting the UIDescriptor Editor but the vst plugins themselves.
I have a German keyboard, set in the system. You can see on the screenshot the "de" in the tray.
However, in the vst3 example plugin, when I type "Ü" I get "[" instead which would be on that key on an en_US keyboard.
