I enjoy giving lots of talks and workshops at conferences about making "art" projects using JavaScript. The underlying message is we can become better developers through this kind of play and use this approach as a way to learn about nascent technologies—but I also think it's a lot of fun! I've also developed some workshops based on these ideas and am slowly but surely working on a book.
