My name is John R. D'Orazio. I'm a priest in the Diocese of Rome. I've created a few different projects, to facilitate the laity, priests, religious, catechists, dioceses, etc. :

  • BibleGet project - Making the Word of God available at the click of a mouse. Most Catholic versions of the Bible are not readily available in Bible applications. The BibleGet projects aims to overcome this obstacle by making it simple to quote from a Catholic version of the Bible at the click of a mouse, in a website, blog, Word processing application, or any other web service or application of any kind.
  • LitCal project - Making Liturgical data readily available for websites and applications. Allows any diocese in the world to create their own liturgical calendar which will then be available over the API for any purpose from an online calendar on the diocesan website, to the automatic generation of the diocesan ORDO each year.
  • Semina Verbi - an online encyclopedia of the relationship between Faith and Culture.

In order to run the API services for these projects and the relative websites, I pay annually for a web server, IP addresses, and domain names. Currently the expenses amount to about €500, but the basic server I rent is coming to its maximum capacity, and services will easily fail if I don't start to upgrade. Also, I have no real backup plan for these services: if they fail, I have no secondary server that can save them. Also, not having a secondary server means that I have a very hard time trying to do system upgrades on the server.

My dream is to start an open source Catholic community that can back these projects with technical competence, as to guarantee a future. But this future must be sustainable, and the costs of running the services must be met.

If you find these services useful and would like to continue making use of them, please consider making a recurrent contribution, however small it may be.

Allow me to amortize the costs of the server, the IP addresses and the domain names associated with my projects.
